The Redeemed Gospel Church – Pipeline Embakasi began in 1996 as a small home fellowship in a mabati (corrugated iron sheet) house near the Quarry construction site. The late Pastor Kitetu, moved by the spiritual needs of the slum dwellers in Mukuru kwa Njenga, started gathering believers for prayer and Bible study. Life in the slum was tough—families lived in cramped mud or iron-sheet houses, alcoholism and crime were rampant, and many lacked access to basic needs. Yet, this tiny fellowship became a refuge for those seeking hope.
By 1998, the group had outgrown the small space, and God sent Bishop Brown Chavaseki and Rev. Josephine Chavaseki to shepherd the growing flock. Under their leadership, the church began structured worship services and community outreach. Despite challenges like limited resources and opposition from local brewers and gangs, the church stood firm, preaching salvation and offering practical help. These early years laid the foundation for what would become a major spiritual and social force in the community.
